Model History
The Talbot BA model range was the talk of the 1934 London Motor Show. It was the final offering of engineering genius Georges Roesch, combining contemporary “Airline” body styling with his latest thinking in transmission and chassis design. The model had a production life of six months before bankruptcy of the parent Sunbeam Talbot Darracq (STD) company brought production to a halt. The 3 litre BA 105 was the rarest of the breed with 23 made.
KY 9680
One of only four Talbot BA 105s to carry the dramatic “Airline” Touring body by Darracq. Now the only survivor in the UK. This car was completed in April 1935 and supplied by Thornton Engineering to Bradford mill owner Mr Ambler. He used it as an everyday car and it covered 50,000 miles by the outbreak of WW2. After the war the car went through a number of hands before Mr Roy Ireland purchased it for £400 in 1964 and carried out a substantial refurbishment. In the fifty years since then the car has had only three owners and has been repaired and fettled, but never rebuilt. The current owner has resprayed the car an appropriate 1930s green (it has previously been blue, white and red) and replaced the 1960’s vinyl interior with matching leather. It is a comfortable and roomy touring car and in the mid-1930s placed Talbot in the same luxury/sporting market as Lagonda, Alvis and Bentley.
