My dad's 1933 Talbot 65 (reg ANB19) with Darraq bodywork which he owned in the mid 1950s and took it on holiday to Germany with my mum in 1957 having overhauled the engine and the Wilson pre-select gearbox. A stunning car in midnight blue. Pictured in Southampton docks.
Having enjoyed the Talbot display at Silverstone you may be interested in this photo of my
father's (Peter Tetley) Talbot 65 with Darracq bodywork. He owned it in the 1950's, the third owner, but when he
purchased it he didn't know the filter between the engine and gearbox was blocked. A cover had been fitted in the high shelf drain from the gearbox back to the sump. Cleaning oil used during the engine overhaul carried out by my father, cleared this plugged filter unknowingly
and on a subsequent trip to the New Forest the Wilson box was pumped full of engine oil but with no return, the engine oil light came on!
Having nursed the car back to Southampton with a gallon of fresh oil, my father overhauled the Wilson box to check it for any damage. Gearbox main bearings were renewed and a rear output shaft (from John Bland) was replaced. He also overhauled the 6 cylinder engine prior to taking it on a trip to Nurnberg, Germany in 1955 very memorable. He bought the car for £95 in 1954 and sold it for £145 in 1957.
