History This 1933 Talbot 105 was delivered in chassis form to London coachbuilders Vanden Plas who built to special order this sporting “Ulster” saloon. Nine of this body type were constructed and ALR 136 is one of only three remaining. This Talbot was discovered in a North London garage in 2001 where it had lain untouched for 15 years. Previous to that it had been left in a derelict state since 1949. Not much history is known prior to that date. Tom Whatton acquired the car in 2006 and had the engine and gearbox rebuilt by Arthur Archer, the Dunmow Talbot specialist, and further engine, gearbox, transmission and bodywork was completed by Foppe d'Hane of Ufford, Suffolk, and new upholstery by “Dave the Trimmer”, Milton Keynes. The Talbot was eventually completed in December 2014. There were approx. 360 “AV” 105’s constructed, the natural progression from the Talbot “90.” The cars were very competitive and were successful in many races at Brooklands, in competitive hill climb events and in all forms of motor sport. It was the designer Georges Roesch’s desire to build this Silent Sports Car that, so quiet was it during its competitive events, it didn’t attract the attention of the public in the same way as other, much noisier cars. With a 10.2 to1 racing compression the 3 litre engine produced 140 bhp at 4500 rpm. and in sporting bodywork, the AV series were capable of speeds in excess of 100mph.
