Vehicle Information/Notes
Vincent Rawlings bought the car in 1953 from Bernard Thorpe of JT Thorpe (Garage) in Wellesbourne, Warwickshire. Thorpe had been a Sunbeam apprentice and bought the car from a local farmer with engine problems. His intention had been to rebuild the engine. Vincent approached him a bit earlier but was unable to buy the car but on a subsequent visit it transpired that Bernard Thorpe had lost interest in the 90 and sold it to him. Vincent told me that the car had done less than 30,000 miles at this stage! On inspection at home he discovered that the engine was indeed in need of a rebuild which he duly undertook. The car proceeded to give reliable (and quick) service for many years until, tired, it was taken off the road for a rebuild which Vincent was sadly never able to complete.

Vincent tells me that it is, he thinks one of only two AM90s with Darracq six light saloon bodywork and that the two cars were unofficial models, not offered as standard by the company. John Thorley is in the process of the rebuild so it may be back on the road before too long.
