Vehicle Information/Notes
Hi Guys,
Thank you so much for your very prompt response. We are trying to establish the provenance of the car. One of the others contacted the STD Register. It is a Saloon chassis # 21641. Ordered 22/12/1926 for export, we believe to Aus so probably spent its life so far here. Still to confirm original body (9171) and engine (153/9772) but pretty sure they will be original.
We believe it was owned and probably originally purchased by a very prominent Western Australian gentleman, Sir Albert Asher Wolff, who became Chief Justice and Lieutenant General of WA. In later years, he was known to “proudly drive a 1964 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud”.
As I said before, the car has been in the family collection of one of our members for at least 40 years. The acquirer has passed so those details a bit vague.
Happy to join the Club. I will see the owner next week or can the Association join?
John, I am a bit curious of the damper arrangement we can see on the front of the crank. The dynamotor drive appears to be some kind of clutch. Unlikely to be the culprit but we are very reluctant to put too much force into trying to turn the engine of it might be locked by something simple that might break.
Also, don’t wish to remove and dismantle the engine further yet if we don’t have to. Except for being locked it all looks pretty good so far (bores, head, gears). Block has a patch so something major went wrong at some time in its past and presumably rebuilt.
Best wishes
Dave
